Alcohol abuse news: Parents 'can influence children's drinking habits'
Parents who take part in regular alcohol abuse are more likely to influence their children's future drinking habits, a report has suggested.
According to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, teenagers who had seen their parents inebriated were twice as likely to have been drunk
themselves multiple times.
The research, conducted by Ipsos Mori, revealed that one in five participants had been drunk on several occasions by the time they were 14
years old.
Claire Turner, from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, stated that the findings could suggest that adults have a greater influence over their
children than originally thought.
She added: "This should include positive messages for parents about how they can influence their child's behaviour and stress the importance
of parents' own drinking and what their children see and think about this. "
The Joseph Rowntree Foundation recently released the findings of a three-year research project about the enforcement of government policies
in low-income neighbourhoods in Britain.
Findings from the Living through Change in Challenging Neighbourhoods report revealed that residents in poorer communities often felt more of
a sense of belonging.
